Jazz fights back to win Singha title

Nakhon Nayok, May 22 : Jazz Janewattananond fired a sizzling seven-under-par 64 to claim his second All Thailand Golf Tour title at the Singha Classic in Nakhon Nayok.

The 20-year-old star, who was six strokes behind overnight leader Panuphol Pittayarat, reeled off eight birdies against one bogey to end his final round on 64 for an 11-under 273 total at the par-71 Royal Hills Golf Resort & Spa. The victory followed his win at the 2013 All Thailand Championship in Chon Buri. Jazz, whose round included a final-hole birdie, took home 300,000 baht at the two- million baht tournament.

Panuphol, who ended his final round with an even-par 71, squandered his four-shot lead after three rounds and had to settle for a joint second with Atthaphon Sribookaew (67) on 10-under 274. They each received 149,500 baht.

The newly-crowned Jazz said that the key to his win was a hot putter in the final round.

“I did not change anything from the first three rounds, but my putter was really hot today,” he said. “I could not really hole my putts on the first three days.”

Amateur Sadom Kaewkanjana  (68) was fourth on 277 while Sattaya Supupramai birdied the last hole en route to a 68 to finish fifth on six-under 278 and took home 93,000 baht. A stroke further down was Peradol Panyathanasedh (72), who got 75,000 baht.

Defending champion and amateur Kousuke Hamamoto was tied for seventh on four-under 280 after a final round 68.

In the women’s 54-hole event, Saraporn Langkulgasettrin closed with a 72 to win by four shots on eight-under 205. Saraporn got 

the winner’s cheque of 32,000 baht. Defending champion and amateur Kanyalak Preedasuttijit also made a 72 to finish second on 209 while Onkanok Soisuwan, an amateur as well, came in third on 212 following her 73.
